Japanese carrier UCOM Corp. will use silicon from Ikanos Communications to power a symmetrical 100 Mbps service.
The deployment centers on Ikanos’ Fx 100100 chipsets, which reside within optical network units and optical line terminals for fiber-to-the-X and multi-dwelling unit (MDU) network deployments.
Jupiter Telecommunications Ltd. (J:COM), Japan’s largest cable operator, is expected to launch a 100 Mbps service this month to MDU customers, as well.
