United Electric Cooperative has selected Entone’s FusionTV to deliver video services on the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network it is building in rural Missouri.
United Fiber, the subsidiary of United Electric Cooperative that is building the network, will use Entone’s system to combine traditional TV with online (OTT) content.
United Fiber subscribers will be supplied with Entone’s Kamai Hybrid Media Player which provides a common interface for both linear TV and OTT content. The Kamai 500 series provides access to various OTT sources (the company listed Vudu), social media apps like Facebook and Twitter, photo sharing via Flickr and Picasa, and Internet radio from Pandora.
“As demands and customer expectations for new and advanced video services accelerates, we are continually looking for products that help meet that demand and keep our community on the cutting edge,” said Darren Farnan, chief development officer of United Electric. “The integration of the Kamai Hybrid Media Player into our advanced FTTH network is the type of product that meets these growing expectations and ultimately helps us drive subscriber growth and revenue.”
United Electric Cooperative serves over 7,000 members in Northwest Missouri and Southwest Iowa. In 2010, United Electric received an award through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to construct a FTTH network in underserved areas of rural Northwest Missouri.
