Most of Arris’ HFC equipment has been OK’d for use in projects funded by the government under the National Broadband Plan.
These are the first DOCSIS 3.0 products to gain such acceptance, according to Arris.
The company received U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Utilities Service (RUS) acceptance for its DOCSIS 3.0 C4 CMTS and Touchstone customer premises equipment suite of devices, as well as its Segmentable Hybrid Fiber Coax infrastructure platform.
Cable operators that have been granted RUS grants to wire unserved or underserved rural areas for broadband can now implement their plans using Arris’ RUS-accepted products and solutions.
“Arris is the first equipment manufacturer to have a DOCSIS 3.0 standard solution accepted by the USDA RUS,” said Liz Zucco, president of MarketSys. “Companies planning on using funds from the USDA RUS Broadband Loan Program must consult the USDA’s ‘List of Acceptable Materials’ and select equipment from Buy American companies, like Arris, whose solutions have been RUS-accepted.”
