More light is being shed on the vendors that will make up UTOPIA, a large fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) project coming together in Utah.
UTOPIA, an acronym for The Utah Telecommunication Open Infrastructure Agency, has placed an initial order for the Minerva Networks iTVManager software platform, which will be used to support interactive television and video-on-demand applications. UTOPIA also expects to use Minerva’s technology to support video telephony and video monitoring services.
Earlier this year, UTOPIA placed an order for IPTV set-tops from Amino Communications.
Initially, UTOPIA plans to offer fiber-fed services to 50,000 homes in Murray, West Valley City and Midvale in Salt Lake County; and Orem, Payson and Lindon in Utah County. The broadcast TV feeds for the network will be sourced at the City of Provo’s video headend.
