Verizon has deployed Clearleap’s cloud-based TV platform, which includes content management, delivery and advertising, across its entire footprint in 15 states.
The deployment was completed in one month, and the system went live a few months ago. Verizon’s initial deployment of Clearleap is being used to streamline production for FiOS1, which offers subscribers local content, including news, sports, traffic and weather.
In addition, Clearleap said it will help push FiOS1 on VOD across all FiOS TV markets. For example, Clearleap said Verizon was using its platform to offer professional sports teams a seamless means for delivering VOD content directly to FiOS TV subscribers. Several teams are already using the Clearleap technology for producing, uploading and delivering content directly to their respective FiOS VOD channels.
“Clearleap’s platform allows us to create more compelling local content while dramatically increasing the speed and reducing costs for quickly getting that content into customers’ homes,” said Tricia Lynch, director of content strategy and acquisition for Verizon.
In Long Island, N.Y., and Washington, D.C., FiOS is using Clearleap’s cloud-based processing and Web-based management portal to help FiOS1 producers upload content from anywhere, process it centrally and redistribute it back to targeted local markets within minutes.
“Verizon has done a tremendous job of pioneering new, more personalized TV experiences in the home,” said Clearleap CEO Braxton Jarratt. “Integration of our platform will help them offer more content and create huge efficiencies in workflow. This also gives FiOS the potential to bring more interactivity into the living room at a time when demand for TV apps is starting to flourish.”
With its technology behind the scenes with Verizon’s 3.2 million subscribers, the deal is Clearleap’s biggest to date. Financial terms weren’t available.
Last month, Clearleap announced a deal with Roku for an over-the-top VOD service. On the cable side of its ledger, Clearleap is working with Mediacom to enable advertising for the cable operator’s VOD service.
