Verizon Digital Media Services, part of Verizon’s Oath unit, has adopted Google-developed Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC) technology across its content delivery network to improve web application performance.
Deployment of the transport protocol across 125 points of presence globally helps reduce latency, powering faster digital media performance, including web page load and transaction speeds on Chrome and Opera web browsers and select connected devices, the company said.
“We are always working to improve our network performance for our customers, who are in the business of providing digital media to their end users as quickly, securely and cost-efficiently as possible,” said Frank Orozco, CTO at Verizon Digital Media Services, in a statement. “Whether it’s streaming a widely watched sports event or accelerating a shopping cart transaction, every millisecond counts.”
Customers are able to implement QUIC at no additional cost through an easy rules engine change, which the company said takes effect “within minutes.”
VDMS said the protocol also continues to deliver a seamless, uninterrupted active stream when an end user switches IP addresses by continuing to use the old connection ID from the new IP address.
VDMS client Bluekiri said it has implemented QUIC across many of its sites including, pan-European online travel agency Logitravel.
“Since implementing QUIC, we have experienced a significant improvement in web performance, with visitors now able to access information faster than ever,” Iñaki Fuentes, CEO of Bluekiri said.
