Verizon Fios is offering its customers a taste of the video content they’ve been missing on premium channels like HBO and Showtime.
On Monday, the company announced its “Free View” on Fios TV promotion, which lets customers activate a two-day premium channel trial. Using just their remote, Verizon said customers can choose when they want the free 48-hour preview to start.
Customers can activate one preview of each premium channel once per year, the provider said. Premium channels eligible for viewing include HBO Showtime, Cinemax, Starz and Epix.
Verizon said Free View content can be watched both at home on live TV or on the go using the Fios Mobile App.
The offer may be an attempt by Verizon to increase premium viewership in the wake of its adoption of the “pick and pay” skinny bundle option it began offering customers in April 2015.
In the second quarter 2015, Verizon reported that more than one-third of FiOS video gross additions opted for its Custom TV offerings, and said demand from existing customers had also started to migrate.
Verizon saw 20,000 net video additions in the fourth quarter 2015, but CFO Fran Shammo said more and more Fios customers are coming to the brand on a broadband-only basis.
