Verizon serves up FiOS in parts of Wash., Va.

August 20, 2008 By Mike Robuck

Verizon has recently received video franchises in the towns of Woodway, Wash., and Stafford County, Va.

On Monday night the town council of Woodway voted in favor of granting Verizon a video franchise for its fiber optic FiOS service.

Woodway is the ninth community in the state to grant a video franchise to Verizon, following recent approvals in Bothell, Brier, Edmonds, Everett, Kenmore, Lynnwood, Marysville and Woodinville. The company plans to begin offering FiOS TV in Washington State later this year.

Stafford County’s board of supervisors voted last night on granting Verizon a video franchise.

Under the 15-year cable franchise, Verizon will make FiOS TV service available to all households in an initial service area in the southernmost areas of the county, including Falmouth and Stafford, within three years. The company plans to begin offering FiOS TV there later this summer.
