Verizon’s fiber-optic-powered FiOS TV service will now be available in Richmond, Va., and Wilmington, Mass.
Verizon currently offers the service to more than 20,000 households in Richmond, but the cable franchise will cover approximately 86,000. The company said it will make FiOS TV available to all households in its initial service area within three years. Richmond is the seventeenth Virginia municipality to approve a Verizon franchise.
Approximately 6,500 more households will receive the service in Wilmington. This brings to 42 the total number of Massachusetts communities where FiOS TV is or will soon be available. Verizon is currently negotiating with some 25 other communities in the state.
Verizon currently offers FiOS TV in parts of California, Delaware, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.
