The company Tech Will Save Us has created two new educational products for kids to test out their engineering skills, according to New Atlas. One is a badge craft kit called Sew + Glow, and the second is a bike light kit called Light Racer that uses wireless power to illuminate a bike’s spokes.
These STEM kits have been developed for 8 to 12 year olds and are aimed at furthering their knowledge on wireless power and conductive thread.
The Sew + Glow kit comes with different templates for badge creation and is intended for electrical engineers that are a tad too young for a soldering iron. The badge comes to life with conductive thread and LED lights. There are templates available, but kids can choose to create their own designs.
The Light Racer kit is for kids who have a passion for bikes. The kit shows them how to build wheel lights that slide between their spokes and light-up while they’re riding. An online guide is available for step-by-step instructions that illustrate how to create and wirelessly power the lightning bolt bike lights.
Although it may not seem too complicated, the kits delve into some safety aspects and allow the kids to experiment with how coils, emitters and capacitors lead to wireless lighting. New ideas for the kits are released online each week, so if the kids want to break apart their bike light to make a theramin, their kits are always versatile.
