European TV manufacturer Vestel and SoftAtHome have collaborated on the development of TVs that integrate everything needed for a combination IPTV/OTT service, obviating the need for any set-top box.
IPTV operators worldwide can offer premium IPTV services, including live TV, PVR and VOD, in addition to streaming video over what the two companies are calling a Connected TV.
The Connected TVs incorporate an EMMA3SL/P chipset from Renesas. SoftAtHome has ported its software platform to the EMMA3Sx family, which is dedicated to connected pay-TV STBs and TV modules. The silicon and software combination can support H.264 HD standard, multi-format video for IPTV and China’s AVS standard.
The Connected TV and the IPTV services can be remotely managed by operators using the TR-69 standard protocol.
“Vestel is planning to sell their Connected TV and set-top boxes with SoftAtHome operating platform in Arabic countries in the second quarter of 2011,” said Hakan Kutlu, deputy director at Vestel Foreign Trade.
