Viavi Solutions today introduced a cable TV signal analysis meter that it reports is fully compliant with the DOCSIS 3.1 standard.
The vendor reports that several of its customers requested it extend the OneExpert meter capabilities to DOCSIS 3.1 to enable early testing and field deployment. “As a result, OneExpert is the first installation and service meter to comply with the DOCSIS 3.1 standard, having participated in the recent DOCSIS 3.1 CableLabs interoperability plug fests,” the company says in a press release.
Features of the product include:
• Embedded DOCSIS 3.1 modem for full 3.1 service testing up to 1 Gbps
• Availability in a version with DOCSIS 3.0 with 32×8 bonding, software upgradable to DOCSIS 3.1, for those customers who are not yet ready to deploy 3.1
• Multi-touch interface with OneCheck automated testing and what is reportedly a simple dashboard for indicating pass-fail results and suggested next steps for troubleshooting
When combined with other products from Viavi, OneExpert is said to offer a comprehensive solution to test and provision DOCSIS 3.1, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and WiFi. The unit is compatible with the StrataSync cloud-based management platform, providing asset, configuration, upgrade and test data management for the company’s instruments.
“Communications service providers across the board have made great strides in advancing broadband in the last mile,” Rob Flask, director of product line management at Viavi, says. “If DOCSIS 3.1 is to successfully transition from trial to operation in 2016, installation instruments and management systems need to be ready to go today.”
