Columbia University researchers are working on finding out how to power the country using evaporation, and they have the background to do it. A video from 2015 is going around now talking about the Evaporation Engine, a tiny sphere of ribbons doused in bacterial spores that generates power through the tiny motions that occur when the spores interact with the air. In a 2017 study, graduate student and lead author of the study Ahmet-Hamdi Cavusoglu said, “Evaporation comes with a natural battery. You can make it your main source of power and draw on solar and wind when they’re available.”
