This futuristic wind farm was inspired by a sailing ship. Hywind Scotland Pilot Park is a group of five wind turbines that generates a transmission voltage of 33 kV to the Scottish grid, where it will be able to power about 20,000 homes. Spotted via TechExplore, the video shows the “world’s first floating wind farm” from drawing to reality. The project was developed by Statoil, a multinational oil and gas company.
Statoil is extending its range to offshore wind farms in Germany and solar arrays in Brazil as well as the drilling sites the company already operates. Their outline for development of different kinds of energy can be found here.
