We recently took a close look at a Fitbit Charge, made possible after our recent acquisition of a PC-based microscope for examining tiny stampings of part numbers on super-small ICs. Lots of interesting hardware here: The watch uses two accelerometers and two different processors. The one disappointing aspect of the analysis was that we couldn’t really identify the LDO regulator, though we have our suspicions about which chip it is. The LDO would have been noteworthy; I’ve heard it said at technical conferences that the LDO in fitness watches actually accounts for a significant percentage of their overall power drain.
Anyway, hope you enjoy our little video presentation.
