India direct to home (DTH) service Videocon d2h has launched a new smart set-top box that will allow existing LED TVs to function as smart TVs, the company said.
With the new connected box, customers will be able to watch their regular TV channels as well as browse content from Twitter, Facebook, on-demand sites, over-the-top (OTT) apps and more through applications residing on the set-top box.
The box will also allow for what Videocon called “unlimited external recording” thanks to a port that allows customer to plug in their own external storage device.
“We aim to empower people with our connected set top boxes,” Videocon CEO Anil Khera said. “Our HD Smart Set Top Box offers exceptional features like internet based apps, USB recording, HD quality viewing and reverse path which enable customers to create a unique viewing experience and also stay connected. The customer benefits from an enriched viewing experience through a new user interface allowing seamless navigation.”
The release of the box marks the expansion of a technology already taking hold in North America.
