Canadian cable operator Videotron has picked Aurora Networks’ full-spectrum dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technology to upgrade its network.

Videotron was already an Aurora customer after deploying the vendor’s “Fiber Deep” architecture in 2008. Cable operators are looking at deploying more Fiber Deep offerings to extend the life of their networks while adding more bandwidth.
 
Aurora Networks’ DWDM enables the evolution to full QAM capabilities, up to 40 and up to 16 DWDM wavelengths, respectively, including seamless migration to support CCAP (Converged Cable Access Platform) deployments. The end result will be that Videotron can future-proof its network, provide virtually unlimited bandwidth to its subscribers and enjoy all of the advantages of a Fiber Deep architecture, including the operational benefits, but with reduced capex.
