With some recent additions, Videotron has its mobile network up and running in nearly 90 percent of its Québec service area.
Videotron launched its HSPA+ network in September, and at the time it stated that it planned on having the network enabled across its entire footprint by the end of this year.
Today, Videotron said the service, which features mobile Internet speeds of up to 21 Mbps, is now available to more than 40 million people in a number of Québec municipalities.
“We are excited to announce the arrival of our state-of-the-art mobile service in a string of new communities, including Joliette, Sorel-Tracy, Chéteauguay, Sainte-Marie de Beauce and Montmagny, to name just a few,” said Videotron CEO and President Robert Dépatie. “When we launched our mobile service in September 2010, our goal was to make it available to virtually our entire customer base by the end of 2011. This rollout is an important step toward that goal.
“However, it is just as important for us to reach customers in new markets such as Alma, which just joined the Videotron community. They can now enjoy the Videotron experience by taking advantage of two of our products: mobile telephone and mobile Internet service.”
Videotron said Saguenay-Alma was the largest urban zone in the Québec telecom market. Videotron is competing for wireless customers with Rogers and Bell in Québec, as well as recent newcomer Public Mobile.
All of Videotron’s plans include free unlimited local and long-distance calls between residential and business customers with mobile or cable telephone services from Videotron, which means mobile users won’t eat up their minutes.
