Vignette is working with Microsoft to make it possible to take any type of media or content and make it available via the Web to any Internet-enabled device, specifically including Windows-based PCs, Windows Mobile powered devices and set-top boxes, and the Xbox 360 console.
That would include not only the type of stuff you’d expect to be distributed through the Web, such as television programs, movies, music and photos, but also any file that can be handled by 2007 Microsoft Office or stored in a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 repository.
The two are arranging for any subscription-based and paid-for content downloaded to a PC to be managed and delivered to any Internet-enabled device through Vignette.
The collaboration between Vignette and Microsoft should enable organizations to develop and catalog content in Office SharePoint Server 2007 and, leveraging Vignette’s Next-Generation Web solution, manage and push that content out to multiple devices such as set-top boxes.
