Virgin Media is expanding its TiVo service, launched in December 2010, with a mobile app that provides cloud-based access to live programming outside the home.
The app works with Apple iOS-based mobile devices. The app will also enable Virgin Media subscribers to remotely manage their TVs.
Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, said: “Our subscribers are increasingly looking to access their favorite digital entertainment across multiple screens, both in the home and on the go. Our partnership with TiVo has always been about much more than just delivering the industry’s best in-home hybrid television experience to our subscribers, but also leveraging TiVo’s pioneering technology to deliver exciting new products to bring customers a compelling entertainment experience to enjoy whenever they want, wherever they are.”
The Virgin Media TV Anywhere iOS app for the Virgin Media: TiVo Service is available now. TiVo said a version of the app for Android devices will follow next year.
Separately, TiVo has cut a promotional deal with New York Jets back-up quarterback Tim Tebow. “TiVo” and “Tebow” sound similar.
