Hoops fans that can’t attend the Big East tourney but have access to virtual reality gear are in luck. FOX Sports and NextVR announced they will broadcast the quarterfinal, semifinal and championship games of the 2016 Big East Men’s showdown from Madison Square Garden live in virtual reality.
The VR broadcast will be available through the FOX Sports Section on the NextVR portal. Samsung Gear VR owners can download the NextVR app on Gear VR headset-compatible phones. The VR broadcasts begin March 10, and all games will be broadcast live on FS1 with the March 12 championship game on FOX.
This marks the first time a college basketball tournament will be broadcast live to a global audience in virtual reality, according to the companies. In total, seven games and more than 15 hours of live virtual reality coverage will be streamed over three days. HD views will allow the VR users to view center court, near the sideline player huddles and under the basket. The live virtual stream will include audio and graphics highlighting player stats, scores and game updates.
