ViXS Systems has introduced a family of chips that enable Ethernet over coaxial (EOC) cable. The products, targeted at the service provider market, enable high-speed broadband access and managed IP services over coaxial networks.
The ViXS XConnex EoC solutions can be deployed with 4 RF channels delivering 700 Mbps of payload traffic, with an option for field software upgrades to increase bandwidth up to 1.6 Gbps without any changes to existing hardware, the company said.
The chipset functions are distributed as follows:
- XConnex 950: RF component supporting EoC channels across a broad frequency spectrum from 400MHz to 1625MHz, providing excellent configuration flexibility. The 950 is used in both the EoC Head End sending appliance and the EoC CPE Receiving appliance.
- XConnex 1028: Paired with the XConnex 950 to provide MAC and PHY for channel set up and management in the Head End appliance.
- XConnex 1026: Paired with the XConnex 950 to provide MAC and PHY for network control in a programmable CPE appliance.
“Operators continually face challenges delivering managed IP services cost effectively,” said John Pomeroy, VP of sales, cloud and CPE, ViXS Systems. “Our Ethernet-over-Coax solutions were specifically designed to improve operator deployment and maintenance costs by reducing installation time and capital expenditures while also enabling lower operating costs over the long term.”
The company claims use of the products can reduce deployment and operational costs by up to 50 percent through shorter installation time, reduced capital expenses, and lower maintenance costs.
