Vuzix Corp. expects the first commercial shipments of its M300 smart glasses later this month, the company said this week.
The M300 is in its final stages of regulatory testing and approval. Laboratory tests will be complete in the European Union by Nov. 18, and testing in the U.S. is slated to wrap up the following week.
“As soon as filings have been made for a given geographical area, commercial volume shipments can commence, which should occur before the end of November in all major markets,” said a statement from Vuzix.
“For the interim, we are manufacturing M300 products with our contract manufacturing house in California and optimizing the performance of our included software and operation shell.”
The M300 features a 16:9 aspect ratio; a diagonal view of 20 degrees, equivalent to a 5-inch mobile device screen seen at 14 inches; brightness of >2000 nits; 24-bit color; a 2GB system RAM; and 64GB internal flash memory. It also supports left- or right-eye use and is compatible with Android 6.0. The camera features 13 megapixel stills, 1080p video, image-stabilized auto-focus, and flash/scene illumination.
Headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., Vuzix makes smart glasses and augmented and virtual reality technologies.
