Just in time for flu season, Econo-Keys has announced the
launch of a backlit, disinfectable keyboard designed for use in medical applications.
As a result of 2009’s deadly H1N1 outbreak, hospitals and
consumers alike have enhanced efforts to combat cross-contamination in shared
spaces. Studies show that frequent hand washing and disinfection of high-touch
surfaces, such as computer keyboards, are crucial steps in combating the spread
of the influenza virus, along with other potentially harmful bacteria.
Built in a fully sealed, industrial silicone case, the EKB-106
is a completely washable, waterproof keyboard designed for quick and easy
disinfection. Unlike a standard desktop keyboard, the EKB-106 has no cracks or
crevices to harbor bacteria, dirt, or spilled liquids.
Full disinfection of the EKB-106 can be done in less than
one minute with any hospital-grade disinfectant spray or wipe.
EKB-106 features blue LED backlighting, providing a clearly
illuminated key legend for ambient-light use. The EKB-106 also features a
full-size keyboard layout with a large, 10-key numeric pad.
The EKB-106 has a lengthy 5.25-foot USB cable, requires no
drivers or additional software, and is compatible with Windows and Mac
operating systems.
