Whether you have interest for a family member or friend that you would like to pursue engineering as a career choice or are just concerned about how future engineering students will be educated, the answer(s) to this question are extremely relevant. Of course, you could do a web search to see what has already been said and to see how it relates to the education that you received. If you graduated recently, you might find many familiar topics. If you graduated many decades ago, perhaps not so much.
Another recommended approach, especially to those interested in sensing and who will be attending Sensors Expo 2018 in San Jose is to put the Future of Engineering Education panel, which will take place during Sensors Expo at 11:00 a.m. on June 28, 2018, on your schedule.
Admission to the panel session is complementary to all Sensors Expo attendees. Organized and chaired by well-known sensor marketing expert, Roger Grace, President of Roger Grace Associates, the list of panelists includes:
Dr. John Walz, President of the Milwaukee School of Engineering
Dr. Albert (Al) Pisano, Dean of the Jacobs College of Engineering, University of California San Diego
Dr. Mehran Mehregany, Director of Case Western’s San Diego School of Engineering Campus
Mr. Suchart Klaikaew, Graduate Student in Mechanical Engineering, Northeastern University
For those specifically interested in sensors and the education required to participate in this field, Professor Pisano of UC San Diego and Professor Mehregany of Case are both considered luminaries in the sensor research area.
