Broadband operators are eyeing home security and smart home opportunities worldwide, but consumer knowledge around the services in Europe is somewhat lackluster, at least compared to the United States, according to new research. As providers like Comcast’s Xfinity Home take deeper dives into improving connected camera options and always-on video recording in the U.S., efforts around consumer awareness in Europe could use some work, according to Parks Associates.
The new report, “State of Residential Security and Smart Home in Europe” hones in the state of home security and smart home offerings in Europe and analyzes the challenges faced by companies looking for a piece of that market. Additionally, the report also profiles the European householders who have already adopted security systems at home.
“A growing amount of hype surrounds the smart home concept in Europe, but consumer awareness in Western European countries still needs to grow,” Stuart Sikes, president at Parks Associates says. “Several innovative smart home products are gaining traction and helping to increase awareness and adoption of both smart home products and interactive security systems.”
Adoption of professional home security is close to 20 percent in the U.S., according to the research firm, which is nearly double the adoption rate in Western Europe. The report also looks into the most common business models in Europe in comparison to the U.S. market, and reviews some of the players in the market, including new entrants.
