ARRIS announced the successful field trial of wideband data service to customers of KCTV JEJU Broadcasting of Jeju Island, South Korea. ARRIS said the trial validates the performance of its FlexPath Pre-DOCSIS 3.0 wideband data over HFC technology.
ARRIS and its Korean value added reseller (VAR), AJin Techline, used ARRIS’ Cadant C4 cable modem termination system (CMTS) enhanced with FlexPath channel bonding technology to achieve speeds in excess of 100 Mbps, communicating with ARRIS Touchstone WBM650B wideband modems.
ARRIS said the field trials at KCTV JEJU Broadcasting mark the first time a Korean cable operator has successfully delivered over 100 Mbps wideband service over HFC to commercial subscribers.
Separately, ARRIS TeleWire Supply announced the appointment of Tom Williams as vice president of marketing and business development. Williams has held executive and engineering positions with Comcast, Fujitsu, KPMG Consulting and Scientific Atlanta. Williams also served for eight years in the United States Marine Corps.
