Widevine Technologies, a developer of software-based encryption systems, has reached a reseller agreement with Alcatel.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but Alcatel will offer the Widevine Virtual SmartCard and other products in Widevine’s “Cypher” technology suite as a conditional access system option for its video-over-DSL and fiber-to-the-home platforms.
The agreement gives Widevine and its technology access to a much larger sales channel than the company might drum up on its own.
“The significance of this agreement with Alcatel is that it immediately provides Widevine with a world-class partner with corresponding world wide coverage and support,” said Widevine President & CEO Brian Baker, in a release.
He said the cooperation of ChungHwa Telecom, Taiwan’s state-owned telco, was a “catalyst” in Widevine’s deal with Alcatel.
Widevine announced a licensing deal with ChungHwa in mid-2003.
