Telecommunications company Windstream Communications has beat Google Fiber to the punch in the Charlotte, N.C. market with the roll out of its new high-speed network links in the city.
According to a Tuesday press release, Windstream recently completed an expansion of its local metro fiber network in the area. The company said the investment will bring new high-speed services to Charlotte’s business community and give corporate customers access to “enterprise-class data, voice, network and cloud services.”
“Windstream’s expansion of its metro fiber network is great news for Charlotte’s business community because it is a critical building block for economic growth, innovation and job creation in our city,” Extended Stay America Hotels chief information officer Ames Flynn said.
Windstream said additional launches of its high-speed fiber are planned for Nashville, Tenn., and Richmond, Va., this year.
The network expansion comes just ahead of the planned roll out of Google Fiber services in the city. Google Fiber will also go head-to-head with Windstream in Tennessee, thanks to the planned launch of its services in Nashville.
