Windstream said Thursday it has expanded access to AT&T’s DirecTV satellite TV service and DirecTV Now streaming service to residential customers across its entire footprint.
The DirecTV products will complement Windstream’s Kinetic high-speed internet offering and give customers the ability to watch at home and on the go, according to the company.
“Our Kinetic by Windstream customers can now enjoy quality programming coupled with cutting-edge technology,” Jeff Small, president of Windstream’s consumer and small business segment, said in a statement. “This fits perfectly with our digital entertainment strategy.”
Financial terms were not disclosed, but the agreement expands on an earlier deal with AT&T, which was announced in November.
On its third quarter earnings call, Windstream CEO Tony Thomas said the original agreement enabled Windstream “to be an entertainment provider across our entire footprint” and to appeal to customers looking for digital alternatives to cable.
“As a result of our significant network investment over the past three years, we are transforming our ILEC Consumer and SMB business unit from a phone and internet provider to a premium broadband and entertainment provider,” Thomas said during the Q3 report.
