Today, Comcast teed up its Xfinity TV effort in Indiana, which included the rollout of a DOCSIS 3.0 data tier, more HD and on-demand choices, and 3-D TV programming.
With Indiana onboard, Comcast has launched Xfinity in 12 markets, including Boston; Philadelphia; Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Portland, Ore.; Seattle; Hartford, Conn.; Augusta, Ga.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; and San Francisco. And more recently, Xfinity launched in central California, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Miami, southern New Jersey, Richmond, Va. and Independence, Mo.
Comcast’s Extreme 50 DOCSIS tier, which features up to 50 Mbps on the downstream, is available for $99.50 per month, while a business-class service is available for $189.95. A spokesman for Comcast said a faster DOCSIS 3.0 tier, which has long been rumored to have a download speed of 105 Mbps, will be available in the Hoosier State later this year.
Other bells and whistles with the Xfinity launch included more than 100 HD channels, 3,000 HD choices and 20,000 VOD offerings.
Customers will also have access to Comcast’s AnyRoom DVR offering, as well as Caller ID to the TV and PC, an interactive home telephone service, apps for iPhones, and the ability to use the remote control to order products and services while watching TV.
Comcast currently provides service to more than 700,000 customers throughout the state and houses its regional headquarters in Fishers, Ind. Comcast has approximately 2,100 employees statewide.
Since 2007, Comcast said it had invested more than $500 million in Indiana for network upgrades, new construction, land and equipment purchases, and personnel costs.
