Cox Communications customers nationwide will be able to access YouTube programming on Cox’s X1-based Contour boxes following the cable operator’s most recent OTT service integration.
The addition, first reported by Cablefax and confirmed by Multichannel News, comes after Cox integrated Netflix on the platform in November of last year.
Users will be able to find YouTube content via the Contour guide and search using the platform’s voice remote.
According to Cox FAQ, streaming YouTube via Contour will count towards customers’ 1-terabyte data cap, as the content is delivered over the internet.
Contour utilizes Comcast’s X1 video platform technology, as part of a licensing deal between the cable operators. Canada’s Rogers Communications, Shaw Communications and Videotron also have each licensed X1 platform intellectual property from Comcast and launched their own branded versions of the platform.
Comcast has already integrated Netflix on its X1 platform, as well as YouTube, which was added last September.
