Online video-sharing phenom YouTube Inc. is doing some growing up after securing a broadband backbone deal with Level 3 Communications.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but Level 3 will provide YouTube with access to multiple 10 Gbps ports, as well as a wavelength service that will link up all of YouTube’s data centers. The latter, dubbed 10GigE LAN PHY, is a dedicated Ethernet point-to-point service offered on the majority of Level 3’s fiber networks in the U.S. and Europe.
YouTube said it picked Level3 because it needed a carrier with a stable and scalable network that would support a service that supports more than 100 million video views per day.
