YouTube TV has added Cheddar, the finance and tech news digital-native network, to its lineup, along with the newly launched general news channel, Cheddar Big News.
Under the pact, YouTube TV will deliver live feeds and on-demand content from both networks. Cheddar also operates a YouTube channel focused on news, short-form documentary videos, and highlights. Cheddar Big News is focused on headline news and top national and international stories, with an emphasis on “nothing-but-the-facts reporting.”
Cheddar Big News is slated to also launch on virtual MVPDs Sling TV and Philo during the second quarter of 2018.
The Coca-Cola Company has signed on as the first integrated sponsor for the network, which plans to cover trends and updates across politics, entertainment, health, sports and weather, among other topics.
“We cover the big political stories of the day but don’t torture viewers with circular panels of supposed ‘expert political analysts’,” said Jon Steinberg, founder and CEO of Cheddar, in a statement. “We move on to ‘moose on the loose’, human interest stories, weather, science, sports, and the topics of the day. It’s apolitical. It’s the cable news product that young people want. We now have the full suite news offering with a news network and a business news network.”
Cheddar Big News named four content partners including AccuWeather for weather and Stadium, VSiN and FanSided for sports.
In March, Cheddar announced $22 million in Series D financing led by Raine Ventures, funds which the company said would be used to launch its second live news network and fuel international growth. Other investors include Liberty Global, Goldman Sachs, Comcast Ventures, AT&T, Amazon, and Altice USA.
Cheddar is also distributed on Sling TV, Comcast’s X1 platform, Amazon, Facebook, Spotify, Twitter, along with other platforms.
