YouTube TV is beefing up its channel lineup to include Turner networks like CNN and TBS, but will also raise base price for new subscribers starting next month.
Under the deal with Turner, YouTube TV subscribers will have access to TNT, TBS, CNN, truTV, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Turner Classic Movies beginning today (Feb. 14). The service said it will also soon be adding sports channels NBA TV and MLB Network to its base package.
Meanwhile, starting March 13 YouTube TV will cost new members $40 per month. Existing customers or those who sign up before then will keep the original price of $35 per month.
YouTube TV initially launched last April in five markets, but has expanded to more than 80 and is now available to all top 100 U.S. markets, reaching more than 85 percent of U.S. households.
The new markets it has recently debuted in include: Honolulu; Lexington, Ky.; Dayton, Ohio; Richmond, Va.; Mobile, Ala.; and Syracuse, N.Y.
With the latest Turner additions, YouTube TV now offers more than 50 networks including local ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC stations, plus cable networks like ESPN, AMC and FX, and local sports from NBC Sports, Fox Sports and NESN in select markets.
In the coming months subscribers will also be able to get NBA League Pass or MLB.TV as a premium add on.
YouTube TV became available on Roku players and Apple TV earlier this month, and is already supported on Xbox One consoles, Android TVs, Samsung and LG 2016 and 2017 smart TVs, Chromecast and Chromecast built-in TVs.
YouTube TV boasts cloud DVR with no storage space limits that keeps content for nine months. Customers are allowed up to six account per household, each with personal recommendations and DVR.
