YouTube’s subscription music service, Red, is officially set to launch on October 28. For $9.99, users will get ad-free access to YouTube’s entire video library—including music videos, obviously—a subscription to Google Play Music, and the ability to stream and download YouTube videos offline.
YouTube’s announcement confirmed the reports from last month that it was planning a subscription service. YouTube has apparently gotten content owners to agree to the service on the promise of revenue sharing. If content owners don’t sign on for the revenue sharing, their videos will be hidden on YouTube Red, so it’s worth it for most content owners.
