The Cable Europe Labs Certification Board has certified products from Cisco, Samsung and Technicolor in its Wave 46.
Products that successfully passed testing by the independent test lab, Excentis, and which are now ready for deployment in European markets are:
- Samsung SMT-G7440 – EuroDOCSIS 3.0 cable modem in a set-top box
- Cisco EPC2325R2 – EuroDOCSIS 2.0 cable modem
- Samsung SMT-C5120 – EuroDOCSIS 2.0 cable modem in a set-top box
- Technicolor TC7200 – EuroDOCSIS 3.0 and EuroPacketCable 1.5 EMTA
“Cable is now setting the pace with the EuroDOCSIS technology, and this is contributing significantly toward achieving the broadband goals laid down in the Digital Agenda for Europe. Cable Europe Labs continues to enable more products to join the race and rollout to European markets,” said Malcolm Taylor, chairman of the certification board.
The Cable Europe Labs Certification Board also announced that a CMTS (cable modem termination system) from Motorola has been granted a “verified for base feature set” label following the release of testing results from Certification Wave 46, which took place in the first quarter of this year.
With CMTSs, the Certification Board operates a “feature-based” approach. Under this approach, vendors can submit for “base” feature set plus other feature sets, such as IPv6, upstream channel bonding (UCB), dynamic bonding change (DBC) and multicast, among others.
The board said that Motorola was verified as complying with the base feature set, as defined by Cable Europe Labs guidelines, for its Motorola BSR64000 – a EuroDOCSIS 3.0 CMTS.
“Being the first ED3.0 CMTS to get a European label, it is a welcome step toward having both CPE and headend equipment certified for the European market – and, with Motorola having achieved this status, we hope to encourage other vendors to submit for certification testing,” Taylor said.
