The number of “Optical Fiber Communities” in the U.S. has reached 936 in 47 states, up from the 656 communities reported in Oct. 2005, according to a new report from the Fiber-to-the-Home Council and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA).
The report, compiled by Render, Vanderslice & Associates (RVA), noted that 280 fiber-fed communities were added since the fall of 2005 and 4 million homes are connected directly to fiber networks, a 50 percent jump in the past six months. RVA added that 671,000 homes are “connected” to FTTH networks, a 107 percent jump from figures registered in Oct. 2005.
