Exclusive strategic relationship with largest cable operator in spain will run the only converged broadband and broadcast platform in the country; Spanish homes that have ono fibre optics installed will enjoy total control over their television in a new audiovisual environment.
ONO will source its set-top and DVR software from TiVo, according to the latter. The Spanish MSO is building an advanced television delivery system based on technology purchased from Nagravision and Cisco.
ONO is relying on TiVo to provide a converged menu of Internet-based and traditional television content.
ONO will be the exclusive distributor of TiVo’s advanced television services in Spain, while TiVo will become the exclusive software provider for all next generation set top boxes deployed by ONO, including both PVR platforms and traditional set top boxes.
TiVo said it will collaborate with ONO to help expand ONO’s reach beyond its cable footprint, but declined to offer details.
Back in March, Cisco said ONO was using its 10720 Router and Catalyst 6500 Series Switch to deliver broadcast-quality television content. The transport network is based on the Dynamic Packet Transport/Resilient Packet Ring (DPT/RPR), Gigabit Ethernet and IP Multicast, Cisco said at the time.
ONO offers integrated telephone, television and Internet services to its residential customers. It claims close to 3.9 million RGUs and over 7 million users.
