Troy Cable has selected Adtran to supply much of the equipment necessary to build a regional high-speed data network to cater to businesses and other nearby institutions.
With funding through the Broadband Technologies Opportunities Program (BTOP), Troy Cable is deploying a 595-mile fiber-optic “middle mile” network. Troy Cable’s network will be built using Adtran’s carrier access and enterprise systems, including the Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access Platform (MSAP), Total Access 900 series IP business gateways and the NetVanta 7100 unified communications platform.
Using this configuration, Troy Cable will be able to deploy both GPON and Active Ethernet from a single chassis.
The network will ultimately be able to deliver speeds up to 1 Gbps per customer. Troy Cable estimates there are 4,000 businesses in the area the network will encompass, and nearly 150 institutions such as government facilities and universities.
In addition, Adtran’s Advanced Operational Environment (AOE) will provide comprehensive service-oriented management for Troy Cable’s network by integrating with existing billing/provisioning platforms to enable automation and offer intelligent service management functions designed to reduce Troy’s operational costs.
Conley Freeman, operations manager for Troy Cable, said, “Adtran’s carrier access and enterprise solutions have allowed us to offer the most state-of-the-art IP network available in our coverage area, and businesses in our community will now be able to compete as they never have before.”
