Harmonic announced this morning that Midcontinent Communications was using its edge QAMs to help provision the cable operator’s DOCSIS 3.0-based wideband offering.
Midcontinent is using Harmonic’s Narrowcast Services Gateway (NSG) 9000 universal edge QAM for its DOCSIS 3.0-based service that features up to 50 Mbps on the downstream and up to 5 Mbps on the upstream.
“We continue to rely on Harmonic’s advanced technology to help us ensure our customers have the best Internet and video experience,” said Tom Heier, corporate engineering manager at Midcontinent Communications. “Adding DOCSIS 3.0 technology strengthened our network, and in implementing the technology we found Harmonic to be a strong partner. Harmonic’s high-density edge QAM delivers reliable and flexible edge processing at a reasonable price point, which was essential for our DOCSIS 3.0 implementation.”
Midcontinent, which provides triple-play services to residential and business customers in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota, first launched its MidcoNet Ultimate DOCSIS 3.0 service in 2009.
In addition to the rollout of DOCSIS 3.0, Midcontinent has also been busy with an all-digital conversion project. Last month, Midcontinent started to convert basic subscribers to digital in Sioux Falls, S.D., which was its biggest analog-to-digital conversion to date.
