In a preview of next month’s FTTH Conference and Expo in Las Vegas, the Fiber-to-the-Home Council has announced its 2005 award winners.
• The President’s Award goes to Joey Durel, the mayor-president of Lafayette City-Parish, La. The Council is recognizing him for his commitment to a campaign and referendum for the Lafayette Fiber-to-the-Home Project. He will serve as a keynoter at the show, which runs Oct. 4-6.
• The Star Award is bestowed on Graham Richard, mayor of Fort Wayne, Ind. The FTTH Board of Governors is recognizing him for his work in moving ahead with a fiber overbuild in the city and for his work as an FTTH “advocate” in Washington, D.C.
• The Photon Award goes to Patrick Sims, senior systems project engineer for ADC. Sims, who helped the Council get off the ground in 2001, served as the chairman of the 2005 conference planning committee.
