Schurz Communications this week announced it closed on its purchase of Winona, Minn.-based Hiawatha Broadband Communications, expanding the company’s portfolio of broadband operations.
Schurz will maintain local management, as it works to roll out the latest technology for residential and business customers in the area.
HBC, which will continue to operate under its brand name, provides gigabit broadband, telephone, and video service over a fiber optic network to communities in southeast Minnesota. The company offers more than 300 channels, video on demand, as well as HBC Studios-produced coverage of local high school and college sports.
HBC operates the RS Fiber Cooperative gigabit fiber-to-the farm project in Minnesota, and also connects more than 20 cities in the southern region of the state to a protected fiber optic network ring via its data transport network.
“The Schurz investment allows us to continue to deploy the latest technology for our customers and grow the HBC business,” said Dan Pecarina, CEO of HBC, in a statement.
Schurz owns three broadband companies, serving more than 75,000 subscribers.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
