AFC has completed its acquisition of Marconi Communication ‘s North American Access Group for roughly $240 million in cash.
The deal gives AFC access to Marconi’s fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) products, which have been deployed by telcos such as BellSouth. AFC, already a leading fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) vendor, is a key supplier for Verizon ‘s rollout of fiber-rich networks.
About 1,000 Marconi employees will join the AFC organization.
“We believe the addition of Marconi’s family of access solutions to our portfolio enables AFC to deliver the broadest range of innovative fiber-based access solutions to our customers. Carriers can deploy field-proven, deep-fiber access solutions that are in concert with their operating strategies and capital expenditures,” said AFC Chairman, President and CEO John Schofield, in a release.
