Starting early next year, Arris will add N2TV’s streaming TV service, which is called Portico TV, to its over-the-top streaming platform for cable operators.
Arris introduced “Arris Market,” which blends over-the-top (OTT) content with traditional programming services on its set-top boxes, earlier this year as part of its Whole Home Solution.
“Net2TV furthers the variety of programming our operators can offer, giving them a competitive advantage in vying for the consumers’ business,” said Arris’ Ron Miller, vice president, product management, consumer solutions “Net2TV’s Portico TV broadens the content mix of existing Whole Home Solution deployments, offering subscribers access to a variety of engaging, on-demand content from leading program providers.”
Portico currently offers 18 on-demand, full-length programs including “Better Homes and Gardens,” “Southern Living,” “Saveur” “Cooking Light,” “World Eats,” “Inside Golf,” “Cycle World, “Sports Illustrated,” “Field & Stream,” “A Closer Look with the AP,” “Newsy in 30,” “The Week in Time,” “People This Week,” “Celeb TV,” and “Popular Science.” All of the shows are updated weekly with the news programs updated daily.
Portico TV works on Samsung, LG, Philips and Sharp smart TVs as well as Roku, Android and iOS devices. The free, ad supported streaming service is currently available on more than 20 million screens.
“Arris is a leader in delivering the content that consumers want, whenever and wherever they want it,” said Tom Morgan, president and CEO of Net2TV Corp. “Our streaming, special-interest programming helps Arris give consumers even more content choices from popular brands that they know and love.”
Arris Market is standards-based and comes with an HTML5 interface that integrates OTT content with linear content. The platform gives cable operators flexibility in branding the look and feel of the environment with the ability to customize the organization of the content, according to the vendor.
Last month WOW! announced it would offer its Ultra TV customers that subscribe to Netflix access to the streaming content through a Netflix app that works on Arris boxes in their homes. Developed for WOW! by Arris, the Ultra TV set-top box integrates the Netflix app into the leased boxes. WOW! subscribers will have access to Netflix as well as live TV, whole-home HD DVR, wireless home networking, and other features without the need for multiple devices, remote controls and complicated wiring. WOW hasn’t said if it will offer its subscribers access to Arris Market.
Arris’ list of cable operator Whole Home Solution customers includes Buckeye CableSystem, Shaw Communications and Eastlink.
