AT & T, Shaw climb aboard the 3-D World Cup bandwagon

June 9, 2010 By Mike Robuck

Along with Comcast, AT&T and Shaw Communications will be featuring 3-D coverage of World Cup soccer.

Like Comcast and DirecTV, AT&T has teamed up with ESPN for 3-D coverage that starts with this Friday’s opening match between Mexico and host South America.

AT&T said it would broadcast a total of 25 World Cup matches in 3-D.

For the year, AT&T and ESPN will feature almost 100 sporting events – including X Games 16, Winter X Games 15, college basketball and football games, and the 2011 BCS National Championship Game – in 3-D.

AT&T said 3-D programming was supported on all of its customers’ existing U-verse DVRs and receivers, without any additional setup or U-verse equipment upgrades. Customers will need a 3-D TV set and 3-D glasses.

Last week, AT&T and ESPN gave a rundown of their multiplatform coverage of the FIFA World Cup soccer tournament.

Up north, Shaw has teamed up with CBC to air two games in 3-D. Shaw will broadcast the bronze medal game on July 10 and the gold medal game on July 11 in 3-D.

In addition to the 3-D TVs and glasses, Shaw subscribers will need either an HD set-top box or DVR.

June 2022 Special Edition: Test & Measurement Handbook

A frequency you can count on There are few constants in life, but what few there are might include death, taxes, and a U.S. grid frequency that doesn’t vary by more than ±0.5 Hz. However, the certainty of the grid frequency is coming into question, thanks to the rising percentage of renewable energy sources that…
