Mozilla has announced Firefox Reality, a web browser for virtual and augmented reality devices. Now pushing the limits of what ordinary web content can do, the Firefox Reality is operated by voice command and coupled with VR technology, according to New Atlas.
When talking to VR users, Mozilla found out that most users were frustrated with not being able to find new games with AR experience. Now, the VR and AR content is the first thing users see on Firefox Reality’s home screen.
“We had to rethink everything, including navigation, text-input, environments, search and more,” said Mozilla’s Andre Vrignaud, head of mixed reality platform strategy, in a post on the Mozilla blog. “This required years of research, and countless conversations with users, content creators, and hardware partners. The result is a browser that is built for the medium it serves.”
Firefox Reality is built on Mozilla’s Quantum engine, which appears to be a mobile version of the engine. Although just the beginning for this site, Mozilla hopes to eventually support elements like a 360-degree video.
