* SB Broadband launches pre-WiMAX in Sweden with Navini
Copyright 2006 World Markets Research Limited
Sweden’s broadband provider, SB Broadband, has launched a high-speed broadband wireless network using pre-WiMAX 802.16e technology in co-operation with Navini Networks. According to the terms of the deal, Navini provided plug-n-play broadband wireless access solutions as well as its expertise in commercial WiMAX deployments.
SB Broadband rolled out 50 Navini base stations in only five months.
Significance: SB Broadband expects to utilise the WiMAX technology to provide broadband Internet access in the Swedish rural market, which still has high-growth potential as it can compete with ADSL and broadband cable cost-effectively. The company expects that the wireless feature will especially appeal to its potential customers, accelerating growth. The project is supported by nine municipalities that make up the County of Södermanland.
