• EGT simulcasts with Adelphia
EGT Inc. said Adelphia Communications will use its encoders in support of the MSO’s rollout of digital simulcast, a technique that replicates analog channels in the digital tier.

Adelphia has selected “short-listed” other encoder suppliers – including those from Motorola Inc. and Harmonic Inc., that the individual systems can choose from as they embark on digital simulcast deployments.

• BelAir bows wireless cell backhaul
BelAir Networks has introduced a wireless mesh backhaul system for mobile network operators.

The BelAir 200 supports direct connections to GSM or 3G microcell and picocell base stations via a T1/Et Circuit Emulation Module (CEM), the company said. The system is designed to help cellular operators save on backhaul systems that traditionally use wired T1 and E1 lines. Backhaul transport costs can comprise as much as 24 percent of operator revenue, BellAir said.

• Narad joins MEF
Narad Networks has joined the Metro Ethernet Forum, a non-profit standards org made of service providers, exchange carriers and network equipment vendors.

Narad’s experience in delivering Ethernet over coax solutions to the cable industry will be a valuable addition to the Forum, and we look forward to their contribution,” said MEF President Nan Chen, in a release.
