* Cable’s ‘Love Shack’ getting ready to rock
Attention partygoers: The B-52s are set to headline the closing night shindig at the 2006 National Show, set to run April 9-11 in Atlanta.
The Closing Night Party (sponsored by Motorola) will be held Tuesday, April 11 at The Tabernacle in downtown Atlanta. The party will kick off at 9 p.m. ET.
* W.V. community to plant fiber
Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) has sealed an exclusive deal to build a fiber-to-the-premises network and provide a range of services for a custom home builder in West Virginia.
Under the deal, Shentel will team with RCMS/Legacy Custom Homes to build out the network and IP-based video, voice, data and security service bundle for the Tackley Mill community in Ranson, W.V.
Once built out, Tackley Mill will be comprised of 600 single-family homes and 400 town homes. Groundbreaking is slated for this year.
* MPEG LA names China veep
MPEG LA LLC, a patent clearinghouse for the MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (H.264), IEEE 1394 and DVB-T standards, has named Eric (Rick) Olson to vice president of MPEG LA China. MPEG LA recently established an office in Shanghai.
Olson, a 33-year military vet, most recently was Commanding General, 25th Infantry Division (Light), where he handled day-to-day operations of all coalition forces in Afghanistan, and was Commandant of Cadets, U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
“Mr. Olson’s arrival is a further sign of MPEG LA’s commitment to serve, educate and build strong relationships with MPEG LA’s customers in China, consisting of both users and owners of intellectual property,” said Larry Horn, president of MPEG LA licensing and business development.
